Lawyers-media standoff over: CM Pinarayi Vijayan
Kochi: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who met Kerala High Court Chief Justice Mohan M. Shantanagoudar at the latter's residence on Tuesday, reiterated that the issues between a section of lawyers and mediapersons were over and that there was no ban inside the courts. “I have discussed the matter with him and there is nothing to be redressed. No restrictions have been placed on the media in the Kerala High Court,” he added. The Advocate-General also accompanied him. Recently, the editors of various media houses had met Mr Vijayan and told him that the issues in the High Court were yet to be resolved. He had promised that he would discuss the matter with the chief justice.
“The CJ responded positively,” Mr Vijayan added and claimed that a public announcement would be made in this regard. He also talked to AG C.P. Sudhak-ara Prasad on the issue. Mr Vijayan, however, didn’t make any mention about the issue of the media room remaining closed in the court. He had said last week that the government could not allow the worsening relationship between the lawyers and mediapersons which will adversely affect the image of the state. “Certain incidents had taken place earlier and there were emotional reactions from either side. However, it was not in anybody’s interest to continue to react in the same manner. The public would not accept such an attitude and the government cannot agree to such a stand,” he had said.
