BENGALURU: Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Monday stepped out of the security cordon and had tea at Church Street in Bengaluru. He paid for his tea using UPI (Unified Payments Interface), which he found quite simple.
Rutte along with his associates, had a walk in Church Street from Brigade Road in Bengaluru. Having sipped tea at a tea stall on the road, Rutte walked to reach Berry Circle and took a closer look at the mural of a lion on the walls of Takshashila School of Arts.
He told reporters that he was happy to have a walk on Church Street and stated that India’s digital payment system is simpler and easier for people to use.
Rutte, who was in India to attend the G20 Summit, said he was happy with the hospitality extended to him by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar during his two-day visit to Bengaluru.
During his walk on the street, Rutte was greeted by the public and was happy to shake hands with them without security cover. People gathered around the Dutch Prime Minister and he responded to the greetings of the people of Bengaluru.
People caught Rutte over their mobile phones and many had an opportunity to take selfies with the Dutch Prime Minister. For some, Rutte himself clicked selfies for the people who wished to have a photograph with him. Shanthinagar MLA Harris accompanied the Dutch Prime Minister.
