Council letter seeks Sitaram Yechury intervention

In a letter to Mr Yechury, the council alleged that the investigations into the case had been derailed by using money power and influence.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Joint Christian Council spearheading the nuns agitation has sought CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s intervention in getting justice to the nun who has filed complaint of rape against Jalandhar Bish-op Franco Mullckal.

In a letter to Mr Yechury, the council alleged that the investigations into the case had been derailed by using money power and influence. It said the investigations were going at a snail’s pace despite the nun giving a 164 crpc statement and providing the required evidence to the cops. The Kerala police had registered a FIR but things are not moving on the investigation front despite intervention of the High Court.

The complaint states that the position taken by the Kerala police was against the LDF stand.

The council sought to know from the CPM central leadeship as to what has happened to the well-stated policy of the party against sexual harassment.

It sought Yechury’s intervention in directing the state government and Chief Minister to take immediate measures to ensure justice to the nun.

Meanwhile, a section of central leaders pointed out that the matter was pending police investigations and the government cannot int-erfere with the probe. Since all loopholes have to be plugged to make it a water tight case, some delay is likely to happen as part of the process.
