Kozhikode: School authorities discovered that a tribal girl studying in class seven, belonging to Pathippara colony near Kodenchery here, gave birth to a baby boy, allegedly after a tribal marriage. Health minister K. K. Shylaja has asked for a report from the district medical officer as well as the deputy director of education. It is learnt that the girl discontinued her studies after February, when school officials and students became suspicious about her growing body. On August 17, she gave birth to a boy at the Government medical college hospital here.

The incident also underlines how a minor girl could give birth at a government medical college, that too under caesarean section, with no questions being asked. The father of the baby who has also been identified is a 17-year-old boy from the same Paniya tribe here. It is also being verified whether a wedding had taken place and if so, how with no suspicions being aroused . The minister has also called for a meeting of officials at Kodenchery on Tuesday along with MLA George M. Thomas.
