Police, cams to keep vigil in Thiruvananthapuram
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: About 1,000 police personnel and over 300 cameras will be pressed into service in the city to keep the peace during the Onam Week Celebrations. Traffic regulations would also be imposed in the city during the coming days. City police commissioner G Sparjan Kumar and other senior police officers will directly monitor the security arrangements. Police helplines would be opened in all the major venues to assist the public.
Apart from the existing 223 surveillance cameras in the city, over 100 additional cameras, including helicams, would be installed at major venues. This apart, 30 vehicle mounted cameras would be pressed into service to check incidents of eve-teasing and pick-pocketing. 250 specially-trained mufti police, including women police, would also be deployed. Police patrolling at byroads will also be intensified. There would be strict restrictions on street vendors to prevent inconvenience to pedestrians. Traffic restrictions will be in place in the city from Monday to Saturday.
Traffic will not be allowed between Corporation office to Vellayambalam from 5.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Vehicles from Vellayambalam side should go through Vazhuthacaud and vehicles towards Kowdiar should go via Nanthencode. Vehicles could be parked at University office, University college, Sanskirt college, Women’s college, Pojjappura LBS compound, Tagore theatre, Water authority compound near Jimmy George indoor stadium, St. Joseph’s school, Thycaud police ground, Arts College, Music College, SMV school, Attakulangara school, Fort school, Attukal temple ground and Putharikanadam ground.
