LDF government to scrap 4 development bodies

The respective civic bodies will get the powers of disbanded authorities, local administration minister K.T. Jaleel said here on Sunday.

Kozhikode: The state government will disband four development authorities namely Calicut, Thrissur, Kollam and Valluvanad keeping only Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority (TRIDA) and Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) alive. The respective civic bodies will get the powers of disbanded authorities, local administration minister K.T. Jaleel said here on Sunday.

“The move will strengthen civic bodies and give them more powers. TRIDA and GCDA will remain functional as they have huge capital and have been functioning for a long time,” he said.

New Software
The government will introduce new software for accepting applications for construction of buildings. Many applications are pending in various corporations, and that prompted the government to launch the software. The pilot project will be introduced at Kozhikode Corporation.

“There will be a regulation which makes sure when an application receives the officer concerned should reply within a period. Those applications which comply with all prescribed norms can be uploaded. It would reduce corruption,” the minister said.

Parking Policy
The minister said there was a need to draft a parking policy in the state. “Vehicle parking in cities is a major issue which required the immediate attention of the civic bodies. If so, it will be first implemented in Kozhikode,” he said.
