Four seriously injured in fire incident in BBMP

BENGALURU: Nine persons including senior officials of Quality Control sustained burn injuries and four of them seriously in a major fire incident which broke out at Quality Control Laboratory and Office inside Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike in Bengaluru city on Friday evening before police and fire force personnel extinguished the spread of fire.

After spot inspection, Additional Commissioner East Sateesh Kumar told reporters that tests were conducted at the quality control lab using chemicals and a hot air oven blasted out of three ovens inside the lab and the blast is suspected to have led to the fire breaking out inside the laboratory. Later, fire force personnel extinguished the fire and the injured were shifted to a hospital.

The identities of the injured were not available immediately. Sources said that fire was noticed at around 4.45 pm to 5 pm and within a short time the fire spread to the top of the building and some persons were struck inside the fire gulfed building.

Sources said the personnel upon noticing fire managed to close the doors of the record room before it spread to the neighbouring parts. People who had gathered at the site tried to douse the fire with water and police personnel shifted the injured to a hospital. The injured were administered first aid by the personnel and shifted them to Victoria Hospital in the city.

Minister for Urban Development Byrathi Suresh told reporters that best treatment for burn injuries is available at Victoria Hospital and if needed steps, will be initiated to shift the seriously injured to other hospitals.

The Minister said injured persons have been responding to the treatment given at Victoria Hospital and stated that fire damaged only the Quality Control Lab.

Doctor Ramesh of Victoria Hospital said that deep injuries have been noticed in the injured persons and they are undergoing treatment. As of now, the condition of the injured persons are ‘stable,’ he said.

“All facilities have been made available for the treatment of the injured persons,” said Ramesh stating that the doctors would decide on the further treatment to the injured on monitoring their health condition and also how they would respond to the treatment administered.
