One more Kerala State Electricity Board staff electrocuted

According to police, Eldhose, a permanent KSEB staff, started the work after switching the power off.

Kochi: A linesman of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) was electrocuted on Friday morning while he was fixing a fault in a power line before the Moovattupuzha municipal office, the second such incident in the last over a week. The deceased was identified as Eldhose Kuriakose (40), a resident of Kainattumattatil House, Karukidam, Kothamangalam. According to police, Eldhose, a permanent KSEB staff, started the work after switching the power off. However, a fault at the sub-station is suspected to have resulted in the mishap.

“The incident happened at 11 am. He got electrocuted and was hanging from the power lines. Finally the fire force personnel arrived and brought he body down,” police said. When contacted, a KSEB personnel said the work was started after the power to the particular line was switched off. “However, we suspect, he might have been electrocuted due to power from an adjacent cable or generator. A probe is on,” the official said. On July 31, a West Bengal native, who was a contract staff of the KSEB, got electrocuted in Chattamma while engaged in power line maintenance work. The locals had then protested against the KSEB workers indulging in maintenance works without taking adequate safety measures.
