THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinaryi Vijayan has called for creating a think tank to counter attacks against Kerala in social networking sites, social media. He appealed to the people to contribute and share views, content by mailing these to teamsmview@gmail.com. In a Facebook post, the chief minister said the falsehoods spread by a section of Delhi-based media was smashed with the collective intervention of Malayalis in social media. Not only left sympathisers even common Malayalis across the globe joined the campaign to counter untruth, canard and baseless charges.
Mr Pinarayi said the resistance put up by self respecting Malayalees against the malicious campaign unleashed by the Sangh Parivar branding the state as the land of communal strive and killing fields was a unique experience. There was a continuous campaign to tarnish the state’s stupendous achievements in various fields, he said. “When Malaylees found that Kerala was being pointlessly attacked, they came together voluntarily from across the world to defend the state. In one voice they said Kerala is the land of kindness, development and of right things. The land is No 1 in the country they said together without any appeal to do so from any quarter,” he added.
The chief minister said the natural response that generated through the social media was very promising. “By selectively targeting Kerala, there was a direct attempt to demolish one of the most democratically functioning states in the country. But the Malayalis across the world came together to counter this hate campaign,” he said. Mr Pinarayi said while social media was playing a great role in dissemination of information, meaningful interaction between different sections and these were rare achievements, a section of people were misusing the same for spreading falsehood, targeting people and misusing it for their narrow political interests. He said he government was prepared to take strict action against those misusing social media platforms. for spreading lies, creating communal divisions and fabricating news.
