Kerala medical colleges start classes before NEET admission

Starting classing early will be disadvantageous to students who seek admissions in all-India quota rank list

Thiruvananthapuram: The decision of the Government medical colleges in the state to start the first year MBBS classes in the coming week will be disadvantageous to students who seek admissions in all-India quota rank list. The all-India quota admissions will be based on NEET. The results of NEET are to be announced on August 17. The counselling for admissions based on NEET is scheduled from August 22 to 25.

The admissions based on NEET to medical colleges in the state were scheduled from August 29 to September 3. Classes are being started by including students who were admitted from the first allotment from Kerala Medical Entrance examinations. The second allotment from Kerala Medical entrance examinations will be held only after NEET.

MBBS classes in Manjeri Medical College began on Thursday. While classes in Alapuzha Medical College is scheduled to begin on August 18, in for Kottayam classes will start on August 22 and in Thiruvananthapuram on August 30. This means that students who got admitted to the all-India quota would lose many practical and dissection classes which would impact on the academic progress of the students. The last date fixed by the Medical Council of India for completing MBBS admissions in medical colleges is September 30.
