Hyderabad to get another big Tricolour flag

The institute had applied for permission for the flag from the Centre in April and was given the go-ahead within two months.

Hyderabad: The city will get another giant flag, with the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology planning to fly a Tricolour measuring 20x30 feet.

A 100-feet flag mast has been erected at the IICT campus for the purpose. The flag will be made of synthetic material used for making parachutes.

The flagpole and flag were sourced from a contractor in Silvassa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The 100-feet pole costing around Rs 20 lakh was transported to the city in three parts. The cost will be borne by the IICT, which will maintain the flag with funds sourced from its own resources.

The institute had applied for permission for the flag from the Centre in April and was given the go-ahead within two months. This will be the first such flag in all the 37 CSIR institutions in the country.

IICT officials expect the flagpole to become a landmark in Hyderabad — being the second tallest after the one at Sanjeeviah Park erected by the Telangana government.
