High Court urges TS government to reconsider Kollu Ranga Rao’s case

Hyderabad: The High Court asked the state government to reconsider its decision of cancelling the appointment of Kollu Ranga Rao to the post of member (judicial) in Telangana State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

The ex-officio secretary of Telangana, consumer affairs and food & civil supplies department, passed orders on 2 July 2022 cancelling the appointment of Ranga Rao, after perusing his bad antecedent verification reports which was sent by intelligence department.

The report from the additional director general of police, intelligence department, revealed that Kollu Ranga Rao was suspended when he was in the post of additional district judge on the charges of abusing powers and he was forced to take compulsory retirement at the age of 58.

After his compulsory retirement, there was communication that High Court considered a lenient view on him, but the charges upon him were not annulled. Based on the report, the government passed orders cancelling his appointment.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan set aside the said order.

However, the bench said that the orders may be construed to be the show cause notice to Ranga Rao, and he shall submit his reply within a period of 15 days. On receipt of such a reply from him, it is open to the government to pass such an order as may be deemed fit and proper in accordance with law and in conformity with the principles.
