Probe mafia links of cine office bearers: VS Achuthanandan

The mafia mode operations taking place in the cinema field need to be probed extensively to expose the nexus.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan on Tuesday demanded a detailed probe into assets of office bearers heading various cine organisations. The Administrative Reforms Committee chairman Achuthanandan called for high level probe to get to the bottom of film world-mafia links and the involvement of criminals. The mafia mode operations taking place in the cinema field need to be probed extensively to expose the nexus.

The veteran leader said the current probe into the actor assault case should bring the massive financial dealings and shady characters out in the open. Besides the reported drugs trade taking place in the field should also be probed at a high level. Achuthanandan said the latest incident should be utilised as an opportunity to cleanse all mafia operations in cinema sector. The evidence that is coming out now in the actor assault case is clearly pointing to a high level conspiracy.

However, despite all these proofs the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) tried to shield the accused actor. The CPM leader said there was no need for such mafia organisations which put money on the honour of women, to continue to function in the film field. The veteran leader urged AMMA leadership including peoples representatives including MP and MLA to conduct self introspection.
