Malayalam actress abduction: CM Pinarayi Vijayan promises justice

Actor's arrest was right thing to happen, says Pinarayi.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said all persons behind the attack on actor will be brought to justice. He said the arrest of Dileep was the right thing to happen. “We made it clear right in the beginning that none involved in the case will be spared,” he said. Mr Vijayan said soon after the incident, the arrests and other formalities were carried out swiftly. “All those involved will land in the legal net,” he said.

The Chief Minister said in the initial stage top priority was given to nabbing the culprits. The then DGP, his successor and the current state police chief all carried the probe forward effectively. He lauded the SIT for carrying out the probe efficiently. However, the CM did not give any specific reply to questions on his earlier statement that there was no conspiracy in the case. Soon after the horrific incident, the Chief Minister had ruled out conspiracy in the case while addressing a public gathering.

The statement drew a sharp reaction from various quarters with Opposition parties accusing him of derailing the probe at the behest of powerful actors. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakri-shan tried to play down the statement saying that what the CM meant was that there was no conspiracy angle at that time.

However, on Tuesday CPM state secretary said it would have been difficult to prove the conspiracy had the government disclosed the conspiracy angle right in the beginning and after every stage of the probe. “No criminal, with howsoever high connections, will get any protection. We had directed the police to arrest the culprits. The police first arrested the accomplices which helped in gathering proof and finally proving the conspiracy. I congratulate the police for the excellent probe,” the chief minister said in a Facebook post.
