IIT-Hyderabad to offer new MTech course

Course fee will be higher than for the existing programmes and will be per-credit.

Hyderabad: Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) will offer a new ‘All Course’ M.Tech programme starting this August and is accepting applications for it in the Civil, Electrical and Mechanical departments till July 20.

The existing two-year programme consists of two semesters of course work followed by 14 months of research. In the new programme, students will take up additional course work in place of research.

While the institute says that the new programme will neither be a short-cut to an IIT degree nor any less rigorous, a GATE score is not mandatory for admission, nor will students be eligible for fellowships. Course fee will be higher than for the existing programmes and will be per-credit.

“Indian industry needs a highly skilled workforce, equipped with the latest developments and practices, and this we believe can be achieved through an exhaustive set of courses,” said IIT-H director Prof. U.B. Desai.

Candidates can apply online on the IIT-H website and will be selected through initial short-listing, followed by a written test and interview.
