Thiruvananthapuram: The Mayor has promised stern action against officials if they are found guilty of aiding building violations revealed in the CAG report. He was responding to questions at a press conference held at the Corporation. When asked about the construction at Pattoor, he said that it was based on a High Court verdict. He added that he had not studied the report and would share his response once he read it.
He was asked why the Corporation was repeatedly losing legal battles in the Pattoor issue. He said that the advocates were competent, and cited the example of retaining Kazhakkoo-ttam in Thiruvanantha-puram Corporation.
The press meet was convened to talk about the state budget. “Thiruvananthapuram will benefit from projects that together cost Rs 2000 crores. This is the first time that the state budget has allocated such a huge amount for the development of the capital,” said Prasanth. The state government had asked Corporation Councils to set aside money for source-level waste management.
When asked about this, the Mayor said that even if the state did not fund such projects, the council hoped that the state would announce a subsidy on kitchen bins. “Moreover, we might need to recruit several employees to help implement the project. We would need the nod of the Department in this case,” he said.
The budget has set aside '100 crores to solve traffic problems in Thiruvananthapram, with flyovers to be built at the main junctions which include Peroorkada, Pattom, Ulloor and Kumarapuram. The Mayor said that this was a welcome measure, and listed many infrastructure projects in the city. Rs 15 crores has been set aside for Venjarammoodu ring road, Rs 10 crores for Pettah-Anayara-Oruvathilkottah Road and Rs 200 crores for the development of Karamana-Kaliyikkavila.
Rs 100 crores for Attukal township, Rs 50 crores project for reviving Parvathi Puthanar, were all good measures, he said. The revival of housing projects like EMS project and MN Lakshamveedu project would be a relief to the poor, he said.
