KANNUR: Both drivers and a woman were killed in a road mishap when two buses collided on the state highway near Punnad in Iritty here on Monday morning. Nearly 40 passengers were also seriously injured and admitted in various hospitals in Kannur, Pariyaram and Iritty. The incident happened around 10.30 am.
The deceased drivers have been identified as Jijo (30) a native of Karikkottakkari and Suresh (40), a native of Meethala Punnad. The body of the woman is yet to be identified. Her body has been kept in AKG Hospital in Kannur. According to Iritty Police, ‘Prasadam’ bus which was plying between Kannur to Iritty hit the other bus (KL 58 J 8199) which was on its way to Thalassery from Iritty on its front corner.
It is learnt that the bus from Kannur was overspeeding and lost control, hitting the other bus. Though the local people and police rushed the passengers to hospitals, the lives of the drivers and the woman could not be saved. The front part of both the buses were completely crushed due to the collision. Iritty Police has registered a case.
