Army School founder principal Colonel Grant passes away
Bengaluru: Colonel William Hector Grant, AVSM, founder principal of the Army School Bengaluru passed away on Monday. A resident of Bengaluru, he had served as principal of a number of schools, including Hamdard Public School, Delhi, BG International School Bengaluru and Cambridge School. He was also a consultant for many other schools. Col Grant, who passed out of the Indian Military Academy in 1948, started his career with Garhwal Rifles.
He had the distinction of participating in all the major post-Independence military operations of the country, including Uri, Kashmir in 1949 and China War of 1962. In China War, he participated as a staff officer in Ladakh. He also participated in 1965 confrontation with Pakistan and 1971 Bangla War. He served the military police centre and Army School in the city. He was also Colonel in Charge Administration of the Indian Military Academy. Col Grant was honoured with various medals including Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.
