GHMC Corporator cleans rubbish himself

TRS member goes around disguised as GHMC staffer.

Hyderabad: Hiyatnagar corporator Sama Thirumal Reddy stands out as an example for his colleagues in ward management. The corporator begins his day at 5 am by touring his ward, wearing the uniform of the GHMC sanitation wing, and if finds garbage he picks it up himself.

Mr Reddy also spreads awareness about the GHMC's twin bin policy and demonstrates how to segregate solid wastes. The ward 13 corporator has toured 65 colonies and has met over 55,000 voters in the last four months since he was elected.

“I wake up at around 5 am and begin by visiting the ward. I hold regular meetings with all resident welfare associations on drainage, drinking water, sanitation and streetlights. I feel no shame in removing silt from drainage or garbage from the road or open plots. I sweep the roads along with workers and that helps if a worker is absent,” said the 49-year-old first time corporator from TRS.

Mr Reddy, who is a resident of Hiyatnagar was earlier a real estate businessman.
To prevent residents from throwing garbage in open plots or roads the corporator conducted a Dappu Chappudu Bottu Pette programme and staged dharnas in front of houses who disposed waste in open plots. From 5 am to 10 am, every day with no offs and no holidays, the corporator is on the job to help voters in a safai karamchari dress.

“In the last four months I developed a clear idea of the issues and to make a proposal and have got works sanctioned under the corporators fund. My aim is to make Hiyatnagar a litter-free zone. After my drive against garbage dumpers many people have started disposing it off correctly. Change can be seen in Sharadanagar, Dwarakanagar, High C ourt colony, Kamalanagar , Arunadaya colony, Ragavendranagar colony and Padmavathi.”

Later in the day, the corporator holds a Praja Vani at home. Those with complaints can meet him or his representative after 10 am.
