CEOs asked to revise voters roll by next month

The first assembly session is to start on June 16 and is likely to continue till the end of this month.

Chennai: Election commission of India has directed all the state chief electoral officers to revise the voters’ roll by the end of next month. The public election department has started enumerating new voters and a supplementary list of voters will be rolled out by August and the same will be used for the October civic polls.

All the drafts, revised voters roll and the supplementary details of voters will be handed over to state election commission and any assistance that the state seeks will be provided by the public election department, an official said adding that based on the experience in the May 16 assembly polls, the polling booth arrangements will also be strengthened by the state.

Meanwhile sources hinted that the State Election Commission (SEC) is to notify the dates for civic polls by the end of August and the SEC will wait for the TN assembly to finish its supplementary budget session, sources said.

The first assembly session is to start on June 16 and is likely to continue till the end of this month. This has to be followed with the budget session for which the schedule is expected shortly, sources added.
