Hyderabad heaves sigh of relief with pre-monsoon rains
Hyderabad: Pre-monsoon showers of moderate intensity were registered in certain parts of the city on Saturday evening.
The rain brought much relief from the searing heat as the temperatures dropped by over 5 degrees towards the night.
The northern and central parts of the twin cities received the rainfall, while the rest remained dry.
The maximum temperature hovered around 42 degrees throughout the day before the onset of the showers in the evening.
Mr Mahesh Palwat, Chief Meteorologist, Skymet, said, “These are, in all likelihood, pre-monsoon showers — considering it rained in the evening before which, the weather was substantially hot and humid.”
About the onset of the South West monsoons, the officer said, “The monsoon generally enters Kerala on June 1. This year, however, we’re predicting it to enter Telangana state between June 8 and June 15.”
Despite the moderate showers, the IMD has issued heatwave warnings across Adilabad, Khammam, Nirmal, and Nalgonda for May 12 and May 13.
Towards the evening or at night, however, there is a possibility of thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds (at 30-40 kmph) and lightning to occur in isolated pockets in certain districts including Hyderabad.
In a nutshell, the city is likely to experience rain or thunderstorm towards the evening or at night for the next four days, with maximum temperatures not likely to exceed 42 degrees.
