DGP holds review meet to prepare police for awards

Hyderabad: Director-General of Police Anjani Kumar held a review meeting to improve police station performance and achieve the top ranking in the Union home ministry’s best police station rankings. The meeting was aimed at identifying areas for improvement and implement measures to enhance policing quality and efficiency.

The goal was to prioritise citizen safety and ensure that Telangana's police stations were among the best in the country, a statement said.

During a video conference with police commissioners, SPs and SHOs who had received the best police station awards in the past, Anjani Kumar exhorted the SHOs to work more efficiently to get the awards. These awards will be announced by the Union home ministry for 2023 based on 2022 and in 2024 based on 2023.

He recalled that in 2017 the Panjagutta police station was the second best in the country, in 2018 the Narayanpur police station was adjudged thirteenth best, in 2019, the Choppadandi station got the eighth position, 2020 Jammikunta got the tenth position and in 2021 the Alair police station was selected among the top 75.

During the first four months of the calendar year, 30 police stations were selected for following better procedures. Anjani Kumar noted that all police stations, including these 30, should compete for the national awards.

He also said that around 80 percent of the score will be determined on the basis of CCTNS data, while the remaining 20 per cent of the marks will be from the provision of infrastructure in police stations and feedback from citizens.
