Pay Rs 2.50 lakh compensation, Kapil Chits told

Failure to pay the compensation would attract a nine per cent annual interest on the insured amount

Hyderabad: The state consumer disputes redressal commission, Hyderabad, directed Kapil Chits (Kosta) Limited to pay an insurance amount of Rs 2 lakh and another Rs 50,000 for causing mental agony to one of its customers within a month.

Failure to pay the compensation would attract a nine per cent annual interest on the insured amount.

They were hearing a counter case filed by Kapil Chits to a 2019 ruling of the Khammam district consumer forum that had ordered payment of compensation to the victim’s family.

One Alli Durgaiah, who was a customer of Kapil Chits, died on November 27, 2017 in a road accident. Durgaiah was a chit subscriber (No.FKST09G-4) for the value of Rs 2 lakh.

He was told that he would be insured for Rs 2 lakh under Kapil Health Club scheme.

When Durgaiah died in 2017, the complainants being his legal-heirs claimed the amount of Rs 2 lakh from Kapil Chits. They never responded. Following this, the victim’s kin approached the consumer forum.
