The metro authorities agreed in the meet to restore culverts before the KIMS Hospital and in wards 7, 8, 9 and 11.

Kochi: The councilors of Kalamassery Municipality on Tuesday decided to withdraw their planned protest following successful talks held with the Kochi Metro authorities who promised to restore drainage and install street lights among other public utilities in the region within a month. “Our main demand was to restore drainage which is now filled with concrete waste post the metro construction works. They promised to do the same within a month. Slabs will be laid where ever there were covers earlier. Similarly they promised to install streetlights at select places within 20 days,” said Jessy Peter, municipality chairperson.

Earlier on Monday, all 41 councilors decided to stage a sit-in and disrupt the Kalamassery metro station construction works alleging that the metro authorities neglected their continuous demand to restore public utilities which got damaged or removed in the process of construction activities. However, officials of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) promised action with the councilors agreeing for the meet on Tuesday. The metro authorities agreed in the meet to restore culverts before the KIMS Hospital and in wards 7, 8, 9 and 11.

A signal post at the Premier Junction will also be installed. However, a decision is yet to be arrived on who would repair the Muttom Yard road starting from HMT Jn. “They said a decision will be conveyed on April 17 and till then no works will be carried out at the yard. However, they agreed to construct a walkway paved with tiles along the national highway, a work originally ought to be carried out by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI),” Jessy Peter said.
