Five, including K M Shajahan, get bail
Thiruvananthapuram: Five persons, including K. M. Shajahan and SUCI leaders arrested in connection with the stir by Jishnu Prannoy's parents, were released on bail on Tuesday. The judicial first-class magistrate court granted bail on the condition that they should not try to destroy evidence and should appear before police, whenever wanted. All the accused also had to execute solvent sureties of Rs 10,000 each. SUCI leaders Shajar Khan, Mini and Sreekumar and controversial Himaval Bhadrananda alias ‘thokku swami’ were the others granted bail.
The five were held on April 5 after they were found to be accompanying the Prannoy's parents to the police headquarters. The offences framed against them included conspiracy, unlawful assembly and obstructing public servants discharging duties. Mr Khan demanded Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to tender an apology for imprisoning public workers. He also denied the alleged conspiracy.
“Jishnu's parents decided to go to the police headquarters, and we had only given support to them,” he said. Meanwhile, Himaval Bhadrananda said he was falsely framed in the case as he came down to meet the state police chief after taking an appointment to share information regarding police-drug mafia nexus in Kochi. “Am I Shankar cement or Fevicol to be included in cases to make them stronger,” asked the swami. Meanwhile, Shajahan’s mother ended her fast following the release.
