APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University forms panel to redress complaints

Thiruvananthapuram: The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University has appointed an appeal committee headed by former Kannur University vice-chancellor P.K. Michael Tharakan for redressing the complaints of engineering colleges. This follows the decision of the university to inspect all engineering colleges for re-affiliation and extension of approval (EoA) for its BTech programmes for 2017-18. The inspection by a two-member expert committee comprising professors from government engineering colleges would be completed before April 30. The two members will be from the architecture or civil branch.

University Pro-Vice-Chancellor M. Abdul Rahman told Deccan Chronicle that the colleges which lack infrastructure would be given a chance to rectify the inadequacies. The colleges can also appeal to the committee. Only after this, the university would consider re-affiliation, Mr Rahman said. The decision for re-affiliation of colleges was taken following complaints over the inadequate infrastructure in self-financing engineering colleges. The university had earlier decided not to extend the affiliation of Toms Engineering College at Mattakkara for the next academic year on the basis of the report of the inquiry committee. The BTech students have been shifted to other colleges.
