BJP K Chandran councillor is found dead
Thiruvananthapuram: BJP councillor of Pappanamcode, K. Chandran, 49, was found dead in his home at Kaimanam on Monday morning. It is suspected that he was electrocuted while ironing clothes. Chandran, a bachelor, who lived with his mother, was alone in the house at the time of the accident.
His body was found by a local resident, who had come calling on Monday morning in connection with a ward-related issue. He alerted Chandran’s relative staying nearby and they broke open the door. Though they rushed him to a private hospital, he was declared brought dead. Later, his body was taken to the Government Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
“It does not seem like an unnatural death. We are awaiting the autopsy report. Neighbours said that he sustained electric shock while ironing clothes. Death must have happened between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.,” said Karamana SI Syam. Chandran, who usually irons clothes on a table, had chosen to squat on the ground on Monday, according to his relative.
He and his mother Omana were staying in a two-room house. But for the past few days, she was staying at his sister’s home with his niece, which is next door.
His body was kept in the corporation office for an hour from 3 p.m. to enable the public to pay their last respects. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda, Mayor V.K. Prasanth, Deputy Mayor Rakhi Ravikumar, former BJP state president V. Muraleedharan and councillors paid their homage. He was cremated at Santhi Kavadam, Thycaud.
