Probe into Kerala Law Academy bylaw
Thiruvananthapuram: Registration minister G Sudhakaran has ordered an investigation into changes made in the bylaw of the Kerala Law Academy Law College before 1984. The latest move comes after the department gave a report that no changes in the bylaw was registered after 1984. The government had only ordered the registration department to look into the details of amendments made after 1984. This was because the land was assigned to the Law academy in 1984.
However, the office of the district registrar informed the registration IG’s office that amendments have been made in December 28, 1972 and October 27, 1975 in the memorandum of association and bylaw. However, what amendments were made in these dates can be ascertained only after a detailed investigation into the records. The original bylaw had a 51-member governing council. However, it was reduced to a 21-member governing council in 1984 before the land, which was given in lease to the academy in 1968, was assigned to the Academy. The land was assigned based on a letter submitted by Academy secretary Narayanan Nair in December 8, 1982.
