Hyderabad: Plan to restore clock towers on anvil
Hyderabad: Mr Arvind Kumar, principal secretary, municipal administration and urban development, on Friday directed the heritage department to prepare an action plan to restore clock towers in the city. He directed officials to explore the opportunities to involve corporates in the restoration programme before submitting proposals to chief secretary S.K. Joshi.
He was speaking at a follow-up to the meeting held by Dr Joshi last month wherein the issue of setting up a heritage fund and identifying structures for restoration was discussed.
When Mr Kumar asked Telangana Heritage officials about the number of clock towers in the city, they did not have the data. Mr Kumar asked the GHMC to provide a status note on clock towers including ownership details and repairs to be taken.
He directed Heritage director N.R. Visalatchy to identify heritage structures in the GHMC area and draft an action plan for restoration and taking up repairs. He said fencing of heritage structures, cleaning and lighting should be taken up immediately. Mr Kumar took stock of the restoration works being taken up by the heritage department at the Secretariat and asked. He said steps would be taken up to restore Deval masjid in Bodhan, Khila Ramalayam in Nizamabad, Ram temple in Dichpally, Jagtial fort and Jain temples in Kolanupaka.
