Chennai: DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Wednesday condemned the lathicharge on youth protesting to lift the jallikattu ban and asked Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam if it was incited by Peta.
Hitting out at Panneerselvam’s statement that the UPA government was responsible for the ban on the traditional game, Stalin said jallikattu was held during the DMK regime even after the notification including bulls in the list of wild animals, but it was stopped during the AIADMK rule.
Accusing the state government of not doing anything concrete to conduct jallikattu, the DMK leader said there are suspicions if the state government actions are aimed at helping Peta.
The state government had resorted to lathicharge on the youth protesting for jallikattu, he said and asked if Tamil youth and students do not have the rights to protest demanding the lifting of jallikattu ban. Panneerselvam should take suitable action to hold jallikattu instead of attacking the DMK, Stalin added.
