Ananthapur: The suicide attempt of teacher Mallesh from Uravakonda mandal took an interesting twist as the police found he was in a financial crisis and had taken loans from private and online finance companies.
The teacher’s family members said the suicide attempt was not connected to matters like delayed salary payment or cancellation of CPS, as teachers’ union leaders were quick to allege.
“Mallesh was unable to clear his debts. Mallesh's wife Shivalakshmi observed her husband had debts and was in a state of depression. She further made it clear that there is no need to politicize the suicide attempt,” police said.
After the teacher made the suicide attempt, a 5-page letter purportedly in his name blamed chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for not cancelling the CPS and also for the delay in crediting salaries in time every month. The police are now investigating the veracity of the social media post.
Leaders of various parties and organisations visited Anantapur general hospital to express solidarity with Mallesh, a teacher from Uravakonda mandal. He made the attempt on Sunday at a deserted place at Penna Ahobilum.
The teacher is being treated at the GGH in Anantapur. Anantapur urban MLA Venkatrami Reddy and YSRC Uravakodna incharge Visweswar Reddy visited him at the hospital separately.
Former minsier Paritala Sunitha who visited the hospital spoke to the media and lashed out at Rapthadu MLA Prakash Reddy for saying that the teacher took loans from online finance firms, which led to his suicide attempt.”
“Every person has debts and loans but nobody took such a serious step. The government should bear the responsibility for this,” she said and announced a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the teacher's family.
