Two policemen placed under suspension in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Pratap Reddy on Sunday stated that two policemen on night patrol duty attached to Sampigehalli police station who were allegedly involved in imposing a penalty of Rs 1,000 on a couple of who were walking on the road late night to reach their home near Manyata Tech Park in Bengaluru have been placed under suspension. However, the names of the policemen were unavailable.

Reddy said that departmental action against the two policemen has been initiated and warned the policemen that “deviant behaviour” of the policemen will not be tolerated.

The two policemen, according to a resident Karthik Patri, had alleged that he paid a penalty of Rs 1,000 for walking late at night on the road and the incident occurred on Friday at around 12.30 am close to Manyata Tech Park.

Karthik stated he was walking with his wife when two policemen in a patrolling van intercepted them and began to question their late night walk on the road.

The two policemen initially demanded Rs 3,000 penalty but later settled for Rs 1,000 and the penalty amount was paid through scanning a QR Code. After the penalty amount was paid, the policemen allowed the couple to walk before issuing a stern warning to them.

A shaken Karthik brought to the notice of the Bengaluru City Police about the horrific incident which they went through in a series of tweets.
