Bengaluru: Nearly 10,000 participants took part in the Bengaluru Walkathon 2016, organised by Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, in the city on Saturday. The event was aimed at raising awareness and support for the second T20 World Cup Tournament for the Blind to be held early next year.
Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ananth Kumar and state Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy took part in the walkathon, which started and ended at Kittur Rani Chennamma Stadium and covered Jayanagar 3rd block.
In his address Mr Reddy said, “I am proud to be a part of the 12th Bengaluru Walkathon spreading awareness on the possibilities for the visually impaired to lead a normal aspirational life and support the cause of Cricket for the Blind, ahead of the 2nd T20 World Cup Cricket for the Blind in 2017. Sport is a great way to bring normalcy to the lives of the differently abled and provide them with a certain degree of financial independence. Close to half of the world’s total visually impaired population is in India.
