EFLU students to skip Diwali festivities

Hyderabad: Students from the English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu), whose protest entered the seventh day on Saturday, will be staying away from Diwali celebrations. They have decided to celebrate the festival of lights only after they get justice and the lives of girls are made more secure.
Each day around 100 students are sitting in the hunger strike, which on Sunday morning completed 140 hours of protest.

The students are decrying the October 18 incident in which a female student was attacked by some men inside the campus at about 10 pm. They are furious at the alleged callousness of the varsity administration in handling the incident.

On Saturday, the students JAC resolved to continue the protest till the implementation of their demands, which includes forming a SPARSH (Sensitisation, Prevention and Redressal of Sexual Harassment) unit.

Meanwhile, there have been fissures between students and the administration on the issue of conducting student elections.

Many protestors complained that although the health of some students, who are fasting continuously, was deteriorating, the authorities were oblivious and not concerned about the well-being of the student community.
