THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav is on a three-day tour to the state to gear up the cadres for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and to stop factional politics. The BJP national council meeting held in Kozhikode in September had entrusted Mr Ram Madhav with the charge of the state. At a high-level meeting held in Thrissur on Wednesday, he appointed former state presidents and the four general secretaries to districts other than their own constituencies for grassroots work.
“BJP general secretaries M. T. Ramesh, A. N. Radhakrishnan, Sobha Surendran and K. Surendran have been assigned Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Thrissur respectively. Former state presidents V. Muraleedharan and P. K. Krishnadas will take care of Kasargod and Pathanamthitta. They will have to camp in the districts for the next one year,” a top BJP leader told DC. More leaders will be asked to work in those districts where the BJP’s vote share had increased in the recent Assembly elections.
Mr Ram Madhav is more worried about the factionalism in the state leadership. It is for the first time that a national general secretary has been attending the meetings of core committee, state office-bearers, morcha and prabhari (in-charge), district committee and the lowest booth committee. In fact, national president Amit Shah has assigned all the eight national general secretaries, including organising general secretary Ramlal, to tour the country to gauge the prospects and improve the party’s chances wherever possible.
