Parties welcome CBI probe into Marad massacre
KOZHIKODE: The mainstream political parties have welcomed the High Court order for a CBI probe into the second Marad massacre on May 2, 2003. CPM state committee member M.V. Jayarajan said that his party had been demanding a CBI inquiry for long. “The V.S. Achuthanandan government had recommended a CBI probe but it did not happen as the agency was reluctant. The High Court verdict is most welcome,” he said.
He alleged that IUML leader C. Mayin Haji had a role in the massacre which was pointed out by Justice Thomas P. Joseph commission. “Mayin Haji and other IUML leaders had roles in arranging the facilities to the perpetrators. The weapons used for the massacre were kept in the mosque with the knowledge of IUML leaders,” he alleged.
IUML state general secretary K.P.A. Majeed said that his party was ready for any kind of probe. “We had declared our stand earlier. The same had been conveyed to the UDF after the allegation that IUML leaders had a role in it. It was the previous UDF government which recommended a CBI probe but the agency was not interested,” he said.
DCC president K.C. Abu maintained that it was not proper to revive the old wounds which had healed over the passage of time. “Congress has no issue with the probe as we have no role in it. The post- Marad situation was handled by the then A.K. Antony ministry with utmost prudence,” he said. BJP state general secretary K. Surendran also hailed the HC decision.
