Farming back at Methran Kayal
Kottayam: Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar inaugurated the revival of paddy farming in 25 acres in the Methran Kayal by sowing the seeds on Thursday evening. “The government will not allow any land to remain idle without agriculture,” Mr Sunil Kumar said. Methran Kayal has 404 acres of paddy fields which have been lying idle for the last eight years. “The government is aiming at development without filling the paddy fields and destroying nature,” he said. The government will not allow the ‘Rakindo Developers’ to carry out any activities other than agriculture at the place that they purchased from the farmers, he said.
He had instructed the Kottayam district collector to take action against the developers for keeping the land in their possession in violation of the land Act, he added. He promised to give facilities to the farmers and the Kudumbasree workers to start farming in the land. The agriculture department was ready to give facilities to the ‘Rakindo Developers’ to do agriculture, he said. Mr K. Suresh Kurup MLA presided over the meeting. Agriculture production commissioner Raju Narayana Swamy was also present on the occasion.
