Bomb hoax leaves schools closed in Kollam
Kollam: A letter received by the Karunagappally police warning of bomb explosions at the government high schools for boys and girls there created tense moments for some time on Thursday. However, it proved to be a hoax after the police conducted searches with the aid of dog and bomb squads on the premises of the schools. The letter written in ‘Manglish’ with full of errors, which the police received on Wednesday, warned that bombs had been planted in both high schools and that they would go off by Thursday noon.
The name of ‘Base Movement’ that claimed the responsibility for the blast at the Malappuram court complex last month was mentioned at the end of the letter which was posted at Karunagappally itself. The schools were given holiday on Thursday. The police started searching the schools’ premises by 7 a.m. but found nothing suspicious. They also combed the nearby schools. The letter has been sent for forensic examination in Thiruvananthapuram.
