Habeas corpus petition on two goldsmiths filed in HC
Hyderabad: A division bench of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday admitted a habeas corpus writ petition for the production of two 30-year-old goldsmiths who were allegedly picked up by the Amberpet, Hyderabad, police on October 8.
The bench comprising Justice A. Abhishek Reddy and Justice J. Sridevi called upon the government to file its response. T. Upendra Chary, a carpenter, filed the petition complaining that two goldsmiths, T. Kranti Kumar and Maheshwaram Venkata Chary, were picked up by Amberpet police from their shop in Chandur, Nalgonda district, on October 8 but not produced before any court.
It was further alleged that no grounds of detention were provided to them. When the village elders went to the police station, they were not allowed to meet the detenues or hand over food to them.
