Karnataka: Elephant fatally knocked down by train
All the other elephants had crossed the track before the train arrived.
BELAGAVI: An eight-year-old elephant died on the spot after being hit by a train and falling into a gorge in Khanapur forest.
It was part of a herd of 10 elephants which were crossing the railway track. Due to the impact, the elephant fell into the 20-foot deep gorge nearby.
According to sources, a herd of elephants from Dandeli forests had entered Khanapur forests and crossed Golahalli forest zone and the incident happened while they were heading to Godholi.
All the other elephants had crossed the track before the train arrived. Although, a team of forest officials rushed to the spot after the incident, the elephant had died by then. Later it was cremated in the same forest.
