I'm not for post, insists Oommen Chandy
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former chief minister Oommen Chandy has reiterated that he will not take up any organisational post but will continue to be a full-time party worker. His comment came in a live Facebook chat after he was exonerated from a solar case by the Bengaluru High Court. Mr Chandy replied to the questions from 70,000 Facebook account holders patiently. The majority of them wanted to know when he would take up an organisational post. He said he had led the UDF in the 2016 Assembly elections and suffered a huge defeat. He, therefore, decided not to hold any party post and informed the AICC.
Congress leaders feel that this is a veiled attack on opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala as he was also part of the then KPCC leadership led by Mr V. M. Sudheeran. “I will remain as a full-time worker of the party, but do not wish to take up any party post,” said Mr Chandy. A Chandy loyalist told DC that though he had come out unscathed in two important solar cases, he wishes to remain on the sidelines for some more time.
“We hope that eventually he will tone down his stand,” he said. An ‘I’ group leader told DC that Mr Chandy was trying to boost his image with the young crowd through his live chat on the Facebook. “Chandy will be a disaster if he comes at the helm of the KPCC as he cannot run the party again. He is keen on liaising with large crowds which keeps him moving,” he said.
