Andhra Pradesh produces 50 lakh metric tonnes of fish

The state government aims to increase from 8 kg to 10-15 kg, and has set up 2,000 Fish Andhra outlets across the state

Kakinada: Andhra Pradesh is the leading fish producer in the country, with a production of 50 lakh metric tonnes through culture, capture, and inland fisheries. This was stated by Maine joint director V. Venkateswara Rao at the valedictory function of a three-day seafood festival in Rajamahendravaram on Sunday.

Rao said that aquaculture is being cultivated in 2 lakh hectares in the state, but the average annual consumption of fish products is only 8 kg. The state government aims to increase this to 10-15 kg, and has set up 2,000 Fish Andhra outlets across the state.

East Godavari joint director of Fisheries V. Krishna Rao said that fish production, consumption, and income would all increase in the coming year. The organisers of the festival presented awards to the winners of the competitions and mementos to the participants.
