Narrow Golconda Fort gateway trouble residents
Hyderabad: Navigating through the narrow gateways of Golconda Fort is a nightmare for local residents. They often have to face major traffic jams that take quite a while to clear up.
There are eight gateways on the outer wall of the Golconda Fort. Local residents have to pass through the 12-feet-wide gateway to get in and out of the area. Around 30,000 people live in Bada Bazaar, Chota Bazaar, Bala Hissar, Ibrahimbagh, Ka-tora House, Resham-bagh, Heera Khana, Sadathnagar, Qazi Galli and Risala Bazaar. They are located within the fort. Most local residents use either the Fateh Darwaza, which connects to Langer Houz, or the Banjara Darwaza, which connects to Tolichowki Road.
Syed Sajid, a resident of Bada Bazaar, says, “Due to the narrow pa-th and the absence of proper regulation, traffic jams are quite common. Tourists come to the fort through the Banjara Darwaza, in la-rge numbers, after visiting the Qutb Shahi tombs.” The problem is especially acute during the mornings and evenings when local residents are leaving for work or returning home. Karwan MLA Kauser Mohiuddin says that the problem has been informed to the traffic authorities.
“The traffic DCP has inspected the spots where there are traffic issues. Based on our representation, two traffic policemen have been posted in the area, but the problem has not been solved. Traffic signals will soon be installed,” he says.
Satish Kumar, the Traffic Inspector for Tolichowki, says that the problem has been studied, and measures are being introduced to minimise it.
“The problem is due to the huge amount of vehicular traffic. We will install traffic signals at the Fateh Darwaza within next few days. This move will bring relief to the public,” he says.
