Visually-impaired come together, get Onam kits

Many of the unemployed visually challenged took up odd jobs for living but say that blindness is not a reason for them to lead a normal life.

Kozhikode: For the visually-impaired it was a different Onam at SK Pottakkad Hall where around 190 visually challenged gathered together on Saturday. Organised by the Kerala Federation of the Blind to distribute free Onam kit to unemployed visually challenged people, the event offered them opportunity to renew their acquaintance. “It’s like a family get-together for us”,says Mani from Nadapuram who came with his wife and his visually challenged daughter.

Around 20 children from Govt HSS, Meenchanda volunteered the function where they helped the visually challenged to lead them to the function and serve them ‘Onasadhya’. Many of the unemployed visually challenged took up odd jobs for living but say that blindness is not a reason for them to lead a normal life.

“It’s our perseverance and confidence that control us, not blindness”,says Rajeevan K. from Vadakara who has travelled to many places himself. Panakkad Munavarali Shihab Thangal was the chief guest in the function. KFB president T Sunil welcomed the gathering while Vice President, C. Habeeb presided over the function.
