Onam celebration from today in Thiruvananthapuram
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Onam will celebrated in the city in a grand style this year with the illumination extending up to the constituency of Power Minister Kadakamapally Surendran at Kazhakoottam. Mr Surendran will switch on the lights from Kaudiar Palace to Attakulangara on Sunday 6.30pm. “There will be illumination from Akkulam bridge to Kazhakoottam police station. Investors at Technopark and traders have helped in this initiatives. Till last year, illumination was there only between Vellambalam and Attakulangara. Special award will be given under four cateogries to organisations who set up best illumination,” said V. Joy, MLA.
Onam trade fare exhibition will be opened at Kanakakunnu and Suryakanti grounds. Around 100 stalls containing artefacts, musical instruments, furtinures, books and textile products will be inaugurated by KTDC Chairman M Vijayakumar. Amusement parks will be set up at exhibition grounds and rides will be opened at 4 pm. Food stalls and herbal outlets will be the attraction of this year’s Onam at Kanakakunnu. The food festival will end on September 18, said exhibition committee chairman K. Anselan, MLA.
