Anganwadi vacancies to be filled, transgenders get ration cards
Chennai: Steps are being taken to fill vacancies in noon-meal centres, and recruitment of anganwadi staff will be commenced after the Madurai Bench of the Madras high court gave its verdict on cases related to anganwadi appointments, social welfare minister V. Saroja told the Assembly on Wednesday.
In her reply to the discussion on demands for grants to her ministry, the minister said the arguments in the case on anganwadi appointments had ended and the judgment had been reserved.
When the final order is given, the vacancies in anganwadi centres will be filled immediately, she said. A total of 4,987 transgenders have been identified as transgenders, she said and added that 4,518 of them had been given identity cards. Ration cards had been given to 1,659 transgenders and 1,115 of them had got house pattas. Monthly pension is being of Rs 1,000 is being given to 1,000 transgenders.
The minister said the gender ratio had improved in the state with 943: 1000, while the national average is 916:1,000. A total of 7,72,643 women had benefited under the gold for mangalsutra scheme. She said counselling will be given to juveniles at Observation Homes to help them face the psychological and social problems. For the differently abled, the government will conduct street shows in all the districts to create awareness on the welfare schemes for them. A tour programme would be arranged for the differently abled children who are undergoing coaching in 78 government centres.
The minister announced a special tour scheme for the children of 23 special schools in the state. An incentive of Rs 50,000 would be given to differently abled candidates who cleared the prelim exams of UPSC and TNPSC.
