Warangal: Health officials in coordination with the members of the National Disaster Resource force (NDRF) and locals shifted two pregnant women who were stranded in their villages due to heavy rains in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Monday.
Water from Peddampeta Vagu, which was in spate after heavy rains hit the district over the three days, overflowed to key roads cutting off villages in the Palimela mandal from the outside world.
Two pregnant women, who were residents of Lenkkalagadda and Sarvaipeta villages that were cut off the road network, developed labour pain forcing villagers to dial the control room for help.
Reacting immediately to phone calls, district collector Bavesh Mishra alerted the concerned officials of the health department and asked the NDRF team to accompany him to the spot with lifeboats.
The relatives of two pregnant women — Madava Pushpalatha of Lenkkalagadda village and Page Radhika of Sarvaipeta village — brought them to the place where the road link was disconnected.
The health officials crossed the road that had turned into a canal with the help of the NDRF team. After their examination, the officials suggested that they be shifted to a hospital.
The officials later admitted the two women in the government hospital at Mahadevpur and provided treatment.
