Vani, one half of Veena, not well

Doctors have been closely monitoring the twins.

Hyderabad: Vani, one of the conjoined twins at Niloufer Hospital, has developed hypertension as one of her cerebral blood vessels has narrowed due to stenosis. Stenosis is abnormal narrowing of blood vessels due to body structure or birth defects.

A senior doctor from Niloufer Hospital said on condition of anonymity, “In the case of Vani, it is a congenital defect and due to that reason she is developing high blood pressure. Veena is normal, but it is Vani who has taken the brunt of the congenital defect.”

Doctors have been closely monitoring the twins. Earlier it was thought that with cerebral development it could be cured. But in Vani’s case it is persistent and as she grows older the narrowing of the blood vessel is increasing.

This is the only condition for which constant monitoring is required for the twins.
Meanwhile the decision by the state government to move the girls to the state home has been welcomed by doctors and para-medical staff.

A senior doctor said, “We wanted them to grow up in a place where there are children and a home-like atmosphere. In the hospital, the girls have been isolated for too long.”
