Man, wife commit suicide over goat at Attingal
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a heart-breaking incident, a husband committed suicide by hanging on Sunday after his wife allegedly ended her life by jumping into Vamanapuram river at Attingal. The woman identified as Anitha, 32 of Kanjirodu house, Nellicodu, near Attingal was missing since three days following a fallout with her husband Sabu, 41.
Anitha’s body surfaced near Kollambuzha bridge and a few minutes later, Sabu’s body was found at his house. According to Kallambalam police, Sabu was an autodriver and used to rear goats. “During Ramzan month, Sabu proposed to give away a goat. Anitha who was attached to the animal opposed the idea. However, after Ramzan, the goat fell sick and was to be taken to a veterinarian. An angry Sabu refused to do so and asked his wife to manage on her own. This led to an altercation and Anitha went away from home,” police said.
A case was registered and police started a probe. On Sunday, a body with a green churidar was found in a bloated state. Kallambalam police and some relatives went to the house to fetch Sabu to take him to identify the body. However, his body was found hanging in the bedroom.
Later relatives identified Anitha’s body and the funeral will now be conducted together. The couple leaves behind three sons. “Sabu had told relatives and sons a day before that he wanted to be alone as he was upset about Anitha’s disappearance. It was not clear whether he was told by someone about the body being discovered,” officials said.
