BMTC staffer tests positive for virus, travel history traced to Kalaburgi, Vijayapura

As of now, the BMTC is running more than 4,500 buses out of 6,100

One of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Committee (BMTC) employees has tested positive for coronavirus.

The said employee has been admitted to Covid designated hospital for treatment. He was on leave for 3 days and got himself tested for Covid-19 at a hospital.

The officials at the BMTC stated that while he reported to duty in the morning, the employee did not show any symptoms of fever or health issue. However, the test results turned out to be positive on June 10.

His travel a history to Kalaburgi and Vijayapura Districts.The contact tracing move has been initiated by health department officials.

While Vijayapura has 80 active Covid cases, Kalaburgi has 483. The employee was working at Depot 24 of the BMTC which has been disinfected and sanitised. However, the commitee is mulling over the issue to seal the depot after discussion with the health department.

The transport committee has said that the case should not worry the passengers as the buses are sanitised and passengers are checked before they are given seats.

As of now, the BMTC is running more than 4,500 buses out of 6,100. The buses are not plying in the containment zones.

While there were restrictions on travel for people above 65 years, the BMTC has resumed the bus services for them. However, the state government had advised the senior citizens to stay at home.
